Website Proposal

Image
The topic I chose was true crime and I decided to base my website on a specific murder in Australia. The main objective of this website is to educate people on a murderous crime, let the story of an innocent life that was taken be heard, and bring awareness to domestic violence/abuse. My target audience would be people interested in true crime and creating videos and podcasts about true crime. Most people more so women are interested in true crime because according to research people are fascinated with the thought of what drives people to do the unthinkable, belief in justice, and the adrenaline produced when fearful. The content that will be featured on my website will be articles, YouTube videos, podcasts, and advocacy for victims of domestic violence/abuse. These resources will be a way for the audience to dig deeper into the murder and gather more facts.  Advocation will be a way to help support people who have experienced or who are experiencing domestic violence/abuse. Who Is Katherine Knight?

Image
Katherine Mary Knight was born in 1955, in Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia on October 24 to Ken Knight and Barbara Roughan. Katherine had a twin sister, Joy, and five brothers. Barbara Roughan was married to Jack Roughan, but she had an affair with his co-worker, Ken Knight resulting in the birth of Katherine. Both families were very well-known, therefore the affair was looked down upon which forced Barabara to move. Katherine was raised in a very conservative town and her family was very dysfunctional. Ken Knight was an alcoholic, and he was sexually and physically abusive towards Barbara Roughan. Roughan went into many details about her sex life and shared those details with her daughters and expressed how much she hated men and sex. Katherine explained that she was sexually abused by several members of her family members until she was 11.  In school Katherine was known as a bully, there was one incident that happened where she assaulted a young boy with a weapon.   In 1973 Katherine started David Kellett who was also her co-worker at the abattoir and later in 1974, they got married. David was an alcoholic and arrived at their wedding heavily intoxicated. On the night of their wedding, Katherine strangled David because she claimed he had fallen asleep on her several times during intercourse. Their marriage was very violent and many times they got into altercations. While Katherine was pregnant, she took it upon herself to burn David’s belongings such as clothes and shoes because she accused him of cheating because he arrived home late. After this, she hit him across the head with a frying pan. David was treated for a fractured skull and because of this the police wanted to charge her, but she talked David into dropping the charges. In 1976 David left Katherine for another woman and moved to Queensland. During this time Katherine’s daughter Melissa Ann was born. Katherine could not bear the separation from David she was seen acting weird by viole

David Saunders

Image
In 1986 Katherine Knight met David Saunders, a 38-year-old miner. A few months later, Saunders left his apartment in Scone and moved in with her. Many times, Knight would become suspicious about what Saunders was doing behind her back and she would often throw him out and he would go back and forth to his apartment in Scone, but they would eventually get back together. In May of 1987, Knight decided to show Saunders what would happen if he ever cheated therefore, she cut the throat of his dingo pup in front of him. One day after an argument Knight hit Saunders in the face with an iron and then stabbed him in the stomach with a pair of scissors. This prompted Saunders to move back to Scone and take a leave of absence to hide from Knight. Saunders returned to see his daughter Sarah, Knight’s third daughter but found out she had gone and told the police that she feared him, and they issued her an AVO (Apprehended Violence Order). Two years later Knight met John Chillingworth and a year

John Price

John Price also known as Pricey was very well-known and liked by everyone. He was a father of three children but when his marriage ended in 1988 his younger daughter remained with his former wife and two older children moved with him. Price was aware of Knight’s past, but they started to build a life together, and eventually they moved in together in 1995. His children liked her and got along well with her and despite the arguments that later happened their relationship was great in the beginning. One of the biggest arguments between Price and Knight was Price refused to marry her but as a result, she taped him stealing items from his job and sent the tape to his boss therefore he was fired. On the same day, he kicked her out and she moved back to her home. A few months later they rekindled their relationship, but he refused to let her move back in with him. As time went on their arguments occurred more frequently and were more violent.

Gruesome Murder of John Price Pt.1

John Price was scared of Knight, and he feared for his life. He often confided in his peers and family stating that he was afraid that Knight would do something to him. Many of his coworkers stated that they had never seen Price this scared of anything. In February 2000, Knight (45 years old) committed a series of assaults on Price (44 years old) including stabbing him. Price eventually kicked her out. On February 29, 2000, before Price headed to work, he made a stop at the Scone Magistrate’s Court to take a restraining order out on Knight. There were legal notices restricting both Knight and Price from being in any contact with each other, but they ignored it. At work, Price told his coworkers that if they found his van still in the yard in the morning then they should call the police because he felt like Knight would kill him soon. His coworkers begged him not to go home but he went home anyway. Once Price arrived home, he noticed that Knight was the only one there and she had sent

On the morning of March 1, 2000, Price’s neighbor was concerned because his van was still in the driveway. Price did not arrive at work therefore his employer sent another coworker over to his residence to check on him. Price’s neighbor and coworker went to his house and knocked on the window of his bedroom, but they could not get ahold of him, so they decided to call the authorities. The authorities broke down the back door of the house to get in and what they found was shocking. Knight was found on the floor beside Price’s body. There was blood on the walls and in Price’s bedroom, according to the police and Price’s autopsy he was stabbed 37 times altogether from the front and back puncturing major organs. He tried to escape but Knight chased him down and eventually, he bled to death in the hallway. Knight went into Aberdeen and withdrew $1,000 from Price’s account through an ATM before the authorities found her and Price. Knight had skinned Price’s body with butcher tools from her

The Trial

Image
When Knight was conscious again, she was taken into custody for questioning. During questioning Knight acted as if she had amnesia and didn’t recall what had happened to Price. She was evaluated by a psychiatrist who believed that Knight’s amnesia was all an act, and she was deemed sane and found fit to stand trial which began in October 2001. Knight offered to plead guilty to manslaughter but was rejected. She was being charged with the murder of Price, but she entered a plea of not guilty. During the trial, Justice Barry O’Keefe offered the 60 jury prospects the option to be excused due to the graphic photographic evidence. Before the trial, many investigators took a leave of absence because of the disturbance the crime scene caused them. One day Knight changed her plea to guilty and the case was dismissed. Justice O’Keefe ordered a psychiatric assessment to determine if Knight understood the consequences of a guilty plea and if she was fit to make this plea. Knight’s legal team pl
